Rami Beracha is an Israeli venture capitalist and a general partner at Eden Block, a London-based global investment firm focused on the foundational infrastructure supporting the new Open Internet. His career spans military service, law, venture capital, and startup mentorship, marking him as a significant figure in Israel’s entrepreneurial landscape and beyond.

    Beracha’s Distinctive Military Service

Born in Tel Aviv in 1961, Beracha enlisted in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 1980, joining the Paratroopers Brigade, specifically Battalion 890. During the first war with Lebanon, he served on the front lines in the eastern sector as part of an infantry cadet battalion. After the conflict ended, he undertook and completed his combat officers’ course with the highest distinction, graduating first among 250 special forces cadets. Following this achievement, he returned to his unit in August 1982 as a platoon commander.

    Injured in Combat

In 1983, while his unit was stationed in the Ein Zhalta area in the Shouf Mountains of Lebanon, Beracha took part in an operational mission under the command of his battalion’s leader. During this mission, a team led by a second lieutenant entered a wild minefield where three soldiers were wounded by mines they stepped on. He was sent with a rescue force to assist. During the rescue, he stepped on a mine planted within a terrace. This tragic accident resulted in the loss of his right hand and left foot and caused severe injury to his left hand.

Following extensive rehabilitation, Beracha returned to military reserve service, joining an elite unit where he continued to serve actively in the reserves. Most recently, during the ongoing conflict, he served on active reserve duty for 450 days with the elite 98 Brigade, exemplifying his dedication and resilience.

    Beracha’s Professional Career

After his military service, Rami Beracha began his professional career as an attorney at a prestigious Wall Street law firm, where he worked for four years, focusing on restructuring and securities law. This experience gave him foundational legal expertise in complex financial and corporate matters.

Subsequently, he transitioned into venture capital and served as a managing partner at the Pitango Venture Capital Fund for 18 years. Pitango is recognized as Israel’s largest venture capital firm, managing over $2.5 billion, with a record of 90 mergers and acquisitions and 25 initial public offerings. During his tenure, Beracha focused primarily on deep-tech and Web 2 investments. He served as a board member for several startup companies, many of which were successfully acquired by major corporations such as Apple, Cisco, Marvel, Microsoft, Oracle, Allscripts, ServiceNow, AppsFlyer, and Quotient Technology.

After his injury, his passion for sports did not diminish; instead, it symbolized his perseverance and spirit. Refusing to let physical limitations define him, Beracha continued playing tennis and expanded his interests to include extreme sports such as mountain biking, snowboarding, and kitesurfing. Kitesurfing requires physical and mental strength, and he has become an expert in the sport.

He also climbed the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, demonstrating his determination and willingness to push personal boundaries. Today, he is believed to be one of the very few people worldwide to master kitesurfing despite having lost two limbs. His sports achievements are a powerful testament to his commitment to overcoming obstacles and maintaining an active lifestyle.

    His Volunteer Work

Beracha dedicates time and effort to supporting others through various volunteer activities. He serves as a board member of the Friends of IDF Disabled Veterans Association, an organization focused on supporting Israeli soldiers and veterans with disabilities. This organization provides vital assistance in areas such as mental health, including PTSD care, education, financial support, and overall well-being for those who have served.
